The Kutenai Indians, who gave the name to the Kootenays (a.k.a. BC Rockies) region are famous for a canoe. The Kutenai canoe, was made from one piece of white pine bark. Maple and cedar were used for covering and ribs. The only other canoe like this one was found in Asia.

Prospectors came to the Creston area in the 1860s. In 1883 ways to reclaim Creston flats from the Kootenay River's annual floods were investigated. Dykes on the river were built and rebuilt well into the 20th century.

Creston is also the home of Kokanee Beer, brewed by the Glacier Brewery, which has organized tours from mid-June to mid-September.

The Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area is home to over 265 bird species, 50 mammal species, 30 fish, reptile and amphibian species, as well as thousands of invertebrate and plant species. The Valley is a migration corridor for migrating birds.

Investigate all the area has to offer by staying in Creston accommodations, which include hotels, inns and bed and breakfasts.
