Fort St. James BC is located on Stuart Lake and was founded by the explorer, Simon Fraser, in 1806.

Today it is a lively community with several attractions for visitors. It is 160 km (100 mi.) northwest of Prince George.

Hiking, boating, skiing both downhill and cross country, touring the Stuart Lake to view native pictographs, fishing, boating, hiking, swimming, mountain biking and windsurfing are just a few of the recreational activities available. Rock hounds will find good sites to explore nearby.

The Hudson's Bay Trading Post is a National Historic Site that recreates the life of early pioneers in the fur-trading days with guides in period costumes reenacting pioneer life.
