Actually, it's Pender Islands, plural, despite the common use of the singular Pender Island BC (or just Pender). History plays a role here. A one lane bridge joins the two islands, which are separated by a canal, originally an isthmus, which was dredged in 1903 to improve shipping.

Today this friendly island is all about welcoming visitors. With a population of around 2200 people, covering 34 sq. km (13 sq. mi.), Pender is a rural setting with miles of white sand crushed shell or pebble beaches surrounded by forests, lakes and hills.

Activities abound from 9-hole golf, to Frisbee championships, to kayaking with professional guides. Make sure to investigate the Driftwood Village Centre for information about Pender. From there you can plan to visit bookstores, antique shops and learn about the restaurants that are open all year.

Make sure to book a Pender Island bed and breakfast or inn to enjoy your stay. BC Ferries takes you from Victoria (Swartz Bay) or Vancouver (Tsawwassen) to Otter Bay on Pender Island.
