Oceanside on Central Vancouver Island is more than the middle of Vancouver Island. It acts as a gateway to the Pacific Rim as well as to the Vancouver mainland.

The Oceanside region includes Qualicum Beach, Qualicum Bay, Parksville, Bowser and Coombs which all provide excellent tourist attractions ranging from the incredible beaches to fishing adverntures.

Nanaimo is a hub of activity where visitors from Vancouver arrive by ferry from Horseshoe Bay. It started as a coal mining town, but now boasts one the of best harbours in the province. The town was fortified in 1849 and the original Hudson's Bay Company fort (Bastion) still stands.
