The spectacular scenery of Quadra Island appeals to the nature lover, artist and photographer.

Spanish and English explorers sailed though the region in the late 1700s, many of them thinking that these waterways would lead to the Northwest Passage, a fabled route from the Pacific to the Atlantic. These explorers met and traded with the local Salish and Kwagiulth First Nations whose ancestors live at Cape Mudge on south Quadra Island.

Native artistry and traditions can be seen at the Kwagiulth Museum in the Village of Cape Mudge. Where there are many historical artifacts, ceremonial regalia and a Carving and Artist Centre. There is a collection of old totem poles which have served as inspiration for modern artists.

Quadra is also home for many well known contemporary artists, writers, potters and other artisans and many Healing Arts practitioners. Studios, retreats, workshops, a winery and spas are all located on the island.

Kayakers enjoy the network of freshwater lakes and rivers that crisscross the less inhabited northern part of the island. Boaters and kayakers enjoy the miles of coves and inlets along the rugged coastline, many with Provincial Marine Park status. Mountain bikers and hikers enjoy the network of trails that follow old logging roads and rail beds. There is a special Quadra Island trail map available.

The Quadra Island Lighthouse, linked by a trail from Cape Mudge Village, is located below the bluffs where Captain Vancouver visited in 1792. Petroglyphs from centuries ago can be found south of the lighthouse at extremely low tides.

Rebecca Spit Provincial Park near Heriot Bay is one of Quadra's best known beaches. This scenic spot is a picturesque anchorage for yachts exploring the Discovery Islands and Desolation Sound. Crystal clear water and sandy beaches attract families for picnics, swimming, nature hikes, snorkeling or overnight camping.

There is excellent sport fishing and diving in the area, considered by Jacques Cousteau Society to be one of the top locations in the world. Quathiski Cove and Heriot Bay are the main population centres. Both have a good selection of stores and services for visitors, including groceries, pharmacy, post office, liquor store, banking, gas station, guide outfitters, gift shops, pubs restaurants and public docks.

Quadra Island accommodations include campsites, bed and breakfasts, inns and resorts.
