Salt Spring Island accommodations allow the visitor to enjoy this picturesque island that is the largest of the southern Gulf Islands between Vancouver Island and the mainland. It is home to more than 10,000 people, many of them visitors who were captivated by the scenery and lifestyle and decided to stay.

The island encompasses 180 sq. km (69.5 sq. mi.) and is the most geographically diverse of the Gulf Islands. It has several freshwater lakes, as well as the highest peaks. Logging, dairy farming and mixed farming contribute to the island economy but tourism is the island's main industry. An integral part of any vacation on Salt Spring Island is visiting a few of the many fabulous galleries, studios, and venues where the island's creativity is presented, including the ArtCraft exhibit and sale at Mahon Hall and the theatre and exhibits at ArtSpring. Ganges, the island's business centre, is the largest community in the Gulf Islands. This island is a popular retirement destination and includes many artists and artisans among its residents. Saltspring has ferry service both from Fulford Harbour and Vesuvius Bay connecting it to Vancouver Island and to the mainland from Long Harbour.
