The modern and spectacular Vancouver International Airport is a popular destination for travellers from all over the world. Airlines offering non-stop flights to Vancouver from the UK include British Airways, Air Canada, Air Transat, My Travel and Thomas Cook Airlines. Stretching from the ocean to the skies, Vancouver is one of the few places in the world where you can ski in the morning and sail in the afternoon. Named the world's "Most Liveable City" by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) in 2005 and a Top 100 World Destination pick in Trip Advisor's 2008 Traveller's Choice Awards, Vancouver offers travellers both fantastic opportunities for outdoor adventure and the sophisticated amenities of a world-class city. Small wonder, then, that the city has been chosen to host the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Flights from Gatwick start at around £400. Consult Dialaflight.com for up to date Vancouver flights.

Highlights of the city include:

Capilano Suspension Bridge

The world's longest (140m) and highest (70m) suspension bridge, if you can stand the swaying, is definitely worth the walk. Located in the middle of the lush west-coast rainforest, the canyon views are simply incredible. Remember, the thick steel cables that you are gripping are safely embedded in huge concrete blocks on either side.

Granville Island Market

Hop on one of the small passenger ferried downtown and cruise through False Creek to the island, famous for its year-round indoor farmer's market. Enjoy a multi-sensory deli specialising in gourmet fish, cheese, fruit and bakery treats. Pick up a picnic and wander down to Vanier Park or hang out by the stalls and listen to the buskers.

Granville Island Brewing

Canada's oldest microbrewery offers half-hour tours where the friendly guides will walk you through the tiny brewing room before depositing you in the Taproom for samples, including Cypress Honey Lager and the delicious Kitsilano Maple Cream Ale.

Robson Street

Enjoy the trendy restaurants and bars, high fashion and coffee-culture on Vancouver's most famous shopping strip. The Hollywood of the North, don't be surprised to see a few famous passers-bay.

Stanley Park

Stroll or cycle along the Stanley Park seawall, a paved 10 km loop of magnificent mountain, ocean, forest and city views. Be warned, it gets crowded on weekends, but the spectacular view is well worth it.

Grouse Mountain

The 'peak of Vancouver', Grouse Mountain offers stupendous views of the downtown towers and shimmering water bellow. Hike or take a ride on the 100-passenger tram to the peak, then sit in one of the many restaurants, relax and soak up the views.
