- 1808 - Simon Fraser of the Northwest Company navigated the Fraser
River, named after him, to the Pacific Ocean
- 1821 - Northwest and Hudson's Bay Companies merged - had many forts,
agricultural intests and settlements in the area that would become
Greater Vancouver
- 1858 - gold discovered in the Lower Fraser River - the California
Gold Rush moved north
- 1850's - gold discovered in the Cariboo - another Gold Rush
- 1865 - more gold found near Revelstoke
- 1866 - BC and Vancouver Island colonies united
- 1871 - BC joined Confederation of Canadian provinces
- 1885 - the last spike pounded in for the Canadian Pacific Railway
- 1886 - the first transcontinental train arrived in Port Moody
- 1908 - UBC founded
- 1914 - Panama Canal opened and Vancouver became an important west
coast port
- 1915 - Granville Island created from silt from False Creek
- 1925 - first Second Narrows Bridge built
- 1937 - Lions Gate Bridge built
- 1939 - second Second Narrows Bridge built
