Agassiz BC is a scenic agricultural community located on the north bank of the Fraser River, just 35 km (22 mi.) from Hope at the junction of Highways 7 and 9.
Agassiz is named after Lewis Nunn Agassiz, a retired captain of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers who settled in the area with his family in 1867. Once the Canadian Pacific Railway came through the town in 1885, the community grew.
Today the town preserves its heritage at such sites as the 1920s heritage Kilby Store and Farm, a five-acre site where interpreters in costume show you country life of nearly a century ago. Take in the Agassiz-Harrison Museum too, which displays artifacts of the community's heritage.
Fishermen come to fish for sturgeon in the mighty Fraser River. Be sure to visit renowned Harrison Hot Springs which is just 8 km (5 mi.) away.
Enjoy a scenic hike in Sasquatch Provincial Park and perhaps you will catch a glimpse of the legendary hairy hominoid.
Camping, hiking and skiing are all popular recreational activities in this area. Be sure to visit nearby Bridal Falls Provincial Park and see the lovely Bridal Veil Falls.
