Thierry

I have these friends who are twins and whenever we want to go out, we always go and sit at different cafés. One day they texted and said lets meet up and I said sure where are we going? They said this place downtown called Thierry.

Of course I was curious because I had never been to this place nor had I ever heard of it before, but being a food junkie I was ready to go and try something new. When I arrived the place looked very chic. They had this little patio; the patio though I will warn you is quite small and very crowded. When I walked inside it was packed with people, the place over all was very small. But the design of the café and the colours gave it a very nice warm welcomed setting.

In the middle they have a big table filled with lots of goodies, treats, and an assortment of teas for you to purchase. In the corner on the left I noticed that they also were selling little tubs of ice cream, and then I noticed the pastries and my mouth just dropped. They have this counter filled with an assortment of cakes, tarts, fruit flans, anything and everything you could possibly think of. It all looked so elegantly presented it was nearly impossible to narrow it down to just one thing. I got this cute looking passionfruit cake that was in the shape of a little dome. It was made with passionfruit mousse, white genoise, and passionfruit gelée. My friends decided to go with the Chocolate Succé, which was made with hazelnut meringue and dense chocolate mousse and the lemon tart, which was made of sweet pastry and a light lemon curd. As we were walking over to order some drinks I noticed in another counter they had fresh made macaroons. We ran over and decided to get a pack of 12. The selection that they had was huge! They had everything from the basics vanilla, and chocolate to extremes that you would not think of such as Earl Grey and lychee. We got so many different kinds including a raspberry, salted caramel, maple pecan, and pumpkin. I told my friends that we have to make it to the counter before I see something else that I want. Sure enough right next to the paying counter they had baked goods like an assortment of Danishes, and croissants. Then I saw there was a chocolate counter as well. I asked the worker whether they ordered their delicates or made them and she told me they had a bakery in the back and they made all the sweets and pastries fresh everyday. I was quite impressed. I had to rush to the cashier before I ended up buying the whole store.

When we finally got to the cashier I noticed there was also a drink menu; typical café drinks but they also had soda that was made in house white plum, and ginger were just a couple of options which I thought that was cool. They also had Italian soda, which was a raspberry soda. I tried it and it was absolutely delicious! They also had a variety of fancy teas that are loose leaf for you to choose from.

When we finally sat down and tried our delicacies my mouth melted. It was by far one of the most delicious pastries I had ever tasted. The mousse was so light and smooth. I could not say anything was wrong with any of the cakes. The macaroons, oh my! They are so moist; to be quite honest I am not a huge fan of macaroons but these ones were made so perfectly. You must absolutely try them you will not regret it I guarantee you.

It has now become a regular hang out for me. I even bring home cakes to my parents and they just go nuts over it. Anyone who comes to Vancouver looking for a dessert café I always recommend Thierry! But if you are not in the mood for sweets and want a light lunch they also have a sandwich and soup menu. Their sandwiches were quite scrumptious as well. The roasted vegetables sandwich is my personal favourite but they also have a smoked salmon with cream cheese sandwich that my dad just goes nuts over.

Go to Thierry for a taste of heaven!
