The EdGe Restaurant

We had a lunch date in Sooke with a relative who lives close by and the question came up, “where to go?” In my recent experience (see Stickleback West Coast Eatery in Sooke) there can be a hit-and-miss aspect to random dining in Sooke.

So, we did the smart thing and asked the front desk at the Best Western Premier Prestige Oceanfront Resort.

We were directed down the road to the Edge Restaurant which apparently is run by a former chef from the Sooke Harbour House, which is a swanky B&B/Resort/5 Star Restaurant.

Perhaps the most challenging part of the dining experience was driving there. Although on the main drag of Sooke (6686 Sooke Rd.) if you are driving east, you can’t turn left into its parking lot. You need to do a turnaround at the plaza with the Shoppers Drug Mart in it and make sure that you don’t miss the tiny turn off to go down 1/2 a block to then make a left into the parking lot.

Despite the logistics, The Edge was busy on a Wednesday afternoon. The menu was good for children (my daughter clobbered a grilled cheese and fries plate and she’s had grilled cheese from experts). I had a bacon burger, but it had sauces and lightly pickled cucumber (I am not at dill pickle fan) on it and was on a triangle bun that I could not pick up. Very good and very filling.

The place belies its cooking. The washrooms are small and the decor is rustic, but the food is top notch.
