Courtenay BC is located on eastern Vancouver Island, 220 km (137 mi.) north of Victoria. Four season tourism is important to this areas as are logging, agriculture, mining and commercial fishing. There are many restaurants and accommodations to please the increasing numbers of tourists to the Comox Valley.

Courtenay can be reached by the Esquimalt and Nanaimo Railway as well as by the Island Highway. Courtenay BC accommodations provide access to skiing on popular Mount Washington with its more than 50 runs and 8 chairlifts. The Courtenay Youth Music Centre and the North Island College are located in this community. Nearby Comox is site of a Canadian Forces Base. Visitors come to view the trumpeter swans that have a wintering habitat in the Courtenay River estuary. The Comox Valley is one of the few areas in Canada where one can ski and golf or go salt or fresh water fishing on the same day during the winter months! There are seven golf courses in the area.
