Cowichan Bay BC accommodations enable visitors to enjoy this town situated at the mouth of the Cowichan River, just south of Duncan on eastern Vancouver Island. It is a scenic half hour drive from both Victoria and Nanaimo.
The Cowichan First Nations people first settled this site and then a Hudson's Bay Company fort was built here in the 1850's. Today it is home to many artists and craftspeople and the site of several wineries. Tourists enjoy the many area golf courses. There are fishing and sightseeing charter boats available. The area is renowned for birdwatching as it is located on the Pacific Flyway for birds migrating in spring and fall. The Cowichan Bay Regatta, the second largest on Canada's West Coast, is held the first weekend of August. Sea kayaking, fishing and wilderness hiking are all available in the area.
