Fort St. John BC is the largest city in the province's northeast area. It is sometimes called the "energetic city!" It has a population of 17,000 and serves a population of 60,000.

It was built in order for the rich resource base of the region to be developed. Oil, natural gas, forestry and agriculture all draw residents to the area.

Today it is also a popular destination for visitors seeking wilderness and eco-adventures, as well as hunting and fishing. Be sure to visit the local museum which shows the history of the area when fur traders and explorers came here. It also gives the history of the construction of the Alaska Highway. There is a Cultural Centre and live theatre and dance are seen there. There are three golf courses available.
