Mission BC is named after St. Mary's Indian Residential School, which was founded in 1861. Located in the Fraser Valley the church of the day was hoping to "tame" not only the natives, but also the expanding colonists who ranged from gold prospectors on their way into gold fields as well as those looking to make a living from the land.

The Mission itself is an operation Benedictine monastery, which welcomes visitors most afternoons. Plan to visit and take a walk through the grounds and enjoy a stunning view of the Fraser River Valley.
