Nelson BC accommodations provide the visitor with a chance to explore this
historic city overlooking the west arm of Kootenay Lake. Located 660 km (410 mi.)
from Vancouver, the town was established in 1887 and became a service centre
for the surrounding mines. During the 1890s Nelson was the largest city
between Winnipeg and Vancouver.
Today many of its historic buildings have been restored and the Nelson Museum
showcases the history of the area's development. There are an abundance of
recreational activities available including hiking, water sports, biking
and both downhill and cross-country skiing at the nearby Whitewater Ski area.
Notre Dame University is located in Nelson and the community is home to many
artists and artisans whose work can be purchased locally.
