Prince George started as the fur trading post Fort George in 1807 by Simon Fraser, the explorer after whom the Fraser River and other landmarks in BC were named. The post, and eventually Prince George itself, was built in and around the ancestral homeland of the Lheidli T'Enneh First Nation. The Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, which became CN Rail, arrived in 1914. Within a year, Prince George was incorporated as a city.
Along with many outdoor activities, Prince George has the Exploration Place Museum and Science Centre. Exhibits include palaeontology, biology, First Nations culture and local history. As well, explore The Huble Homestead Historic Site where you can explore the grounds and learn about pioneer life from costumed guides. Railway fans should see the Prince George Railway and Forestry Museum to learn more about BC and its development.
