Mackenzie BC is located in the north of the province in the Rocky Mountain Trench. It is a two-hour drive north of Prince George. Adventure tourism is a major attraction for visitors.

The community lies at the southern end of Williston Lake, the largest man-made lake in North America, which was created by the W.A. C. Bennett dam on the Peace River. It was named after Alexander Mackenzie, the famous explorer who camped near here in 1793.

Recreational opportunities include hiking, camping, canoeing and fishing, swimming, picnicking. In winter, ice fishing down hill skiing, cross-country skiing and snow-mobiling are all popular activities.
