The Village of Slocan is a quiet community at the south end of Slocan Lake, south of New Denver, and is located at the start of the Slocan River.

In the 1890s, Slocan was a busy, boisterous, boomtown for miners who were in pursuit of the next silver mother-lode. In World War II, one of the controversial Japanese Internment Camps, was in Slocan. A now world famous broadcaster and environmentalist, David Suzuki, was in this camp as boy.

Valhalla Provincial Park is Slocan's major attraction and was created to protect the diverse landscape, majestic peaks and unique plant life of the Selkirk Mountains. The park is perfect for backcountry adventures. Boating, water skiing, and canoeing are available along with hiking, walks, wilderness treks and mountain climbing.

Slocan accommodations include bed and breakfasts and motels.

Canada's highest full service hiking and fishing resort, is located in the core area of CATHEDRAL PROVINCIAL PARK.
