Don Mitchell of Shuswap Lake Motel & Resort tells us that from Mid September thru October you can witness the spectacle called the Adams River Salmon Run. This year (2006) is especially exciting because it is the Dominate Run, which means the largest spawning run in a 4 year life cycle for the Sockeye Salmon.

Fisheries has estimated over 14 million sockeye could travel from the Pacific Ocean up the Fraser River and into the Thompson River and then finally ending up at Shuswap Lake before they travel up the Adams River to spawn. Year 2006 marks the 4 year cycle of the Sockeye returning over 500 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean to spawn in their birthplace. Thousands of visitors from around the world will travel here to see one of the great miracles of the world when these fish turn a brilliant red and have a green head.

There will be loads of information and exhibits as well as good food booths and Native foods to showcase this great marvel. This is also an awesome place to take long walks by the river and see Eagles, Beaver, Osprey and maybe even spot a Bear. Shuswap Lake Motel and Resort which is only a 15 minute drive from the fish run is a great place to come alone or bring your family for a relaxing vacation with full kitchen units and sleeping units as well as camping sites available.
