Top 5 Things To Do On Texada Island

In my opinion, the Top Five things to do on Texada Island are:

Walking old growth forest trails
The Dr. Kay Garner Nature Trail along the forested shoreline of Shelter Point Regional Park offers some spectacular examples of BC coastal forest. The trail begins at the intersection of Gillies Bay Rd. and Shelter Point Rd.

Hiking and camping
Shelter Point Regional Campground. Ocean front and rich forested camp sites, food concession, showers and there are no land predators to eat you. This is a spectacular public spot for watching sunsets. The park entrance is at the intersection of Gillies Bay Rd. and Shelter Point Rd.

Beach combing and swimming
The warms waters of Gillies Bay are a favourite, especially at low tide. There are three public access points, one just south of the General Store, one just north of the RCMP station and another off Sanderson Rd. in Gillies Bay.

Farmers’ market
Sundays throughout the summer, 12:30 to 2:30. Locally grown produce and canned goods plus crafts from local artisans. Located at the Gillies Bay ball field at the intersection Gillies Bay Rd and School Rd., across form the General Store.

Arts and Heritage
Texada has a rich history as an early 1800’s pioneer settlement. The Texada Heritage Society museum at Blubber Bay, just up the hill from the ferry terminal and in the School in Van Anda. Check out for more information.
