Egmont and Earl's Cove are small communities located north of Pender Harbour. The 50 minute ferry ride to Powell River runs from the Earl's Cove terminal to Saltery Bay, south of Powell River.

Near the small community of Egmont the tidal rapids at Skookumchuck Narrows are located. This is one of the most dramatic sights on the West Coast. A narrow passage for the tidal waters between Sechelt and Jervis Inlets can creates currents of 30 km (18.5 mi.) per hour. The word "skookum" is the Sechelt Native peoples' word for strong and "chuck" means water. Skookumchuck Narrows Park is just past Egmont and there is an easy 4 km (2.5 mi.) trail from the parking lot to this spectacle. Be sure to check the tide tables for best viewing times.

Ruby Lake and Klein Lake, two other small communities located just north of Pender Harbour, provide hiking and biking trails and there is a beach and boat launch at Dan Bosch Regional Park on Ruby Lake. There is a Forest Service campsite at Klein Lake where the trout fishing is excellent. There is excellent Italian cuisine at the luxurious Ruby Lake Resort.

Stay in Egmont accommodations and explore this part of the Sunshine Coast.
