Kamloops is the major commercial centre for the south-central Interior of British Columbia and is the third largest community outside the lower Mainland. This city began during the 1860s Gold Rush. Kamloops grew with the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway through the community in 1885 and it became a railway divisional centre.
