Naramata BC is just 16 km (10 mi.) north of Penticton on beautiful Okanagan Lake. It is set in an area of vineyards and orchards. It was founded by John Moore Robinson who gave it the name of Naramata after Naramattah who was the wife of a famous Sioux Chief. The name means "Smile of the Manitou".
This is the heart of the world famous Okanagan wine country and wine-tasting tours bring visitors from around the world. Orchards abound and there are many roadside markets.
Hiking, biking (especially on the Kettle Valley Trail), boating, swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, kayaking are popular in summer and in winter there is downhill skiing an hour away and cross-country skiing, snow-mobiling, snow-shoeing and snow-boarding.
Naramata accommodations include bed and breakfasts and guest houses.
