Come and explore historic Kootenay Lake!

Boswell BC is a town on Kootenay Lake in the Central Kootenay Region. It sits between the Selkirk and Purcell Mountains. Peaks in the area range to 2750 m (9000 ft.) and are notable for their ice fields. Kootenay Lake is 144 km (90 mi.) long and 8 km (5 mi.) across. It has many little bays and beaches that make exploration by kayak or canoe enjoyable. The water is pure and the fishing is fantastic - Kokanee salmon, sturgeon, and Gerrard Rainbow are all available.

You may want to take a boat tour on the Kootenay Lake Heritage Boat Tours and learn about the past of this area. Wildlife abound and cougar, elk, deer, coyote, mountain goats, moose and bears are all regularly seen. The wetlands at the ends of the lake provide wonderful bird-watching opportunities.

The Ktunaxa First Nations have lived in this valley for thousands of years and today ancient petroglyphs are visible from the lake. The valley was first visited by Europeans in 1808 when David Thompson explored here. Silver and gold, railways and paddle-wheel steamers all make up the romantic history of the area.

Boswell accommodations include resorts, bed and breakfasts, cottages, log chalets, vacation home rentals, an inn and a campground.
