Ladysmith BC is located north of Nanaimo on the 49th parallel on the east coast of Vancouver Island. The town is on a hillside next to a sheltered harbour.

The town site is considered quaint and is well know for its Festival of Lights project, which was undertaken in 1987. From the last Thursday in November until the first Sunday in January, Ladysmith is bright with holiday lights. The project started with the downtown core and gradually expanded to the surrounding blocks.

There are many activities to undertake, including ocean kayaking from Transfer Beach as well as hiking and nature watching along the Holland Creek Trail, which is a 5.8 km (3.6 mi.) part of the Trans Canada Trail.

Ladysmith BC is also the home town to the famous and controversial Pamela Anderson, who also happens to have been the first baby born on Canada's centennial July 1 1967.

Ladysmith BC Accommodations include bed and breakfasts, inns and motels.
