Oceanfront Suites at Cowichan Bay

Cowichan Bay is a village north of Victoria and south of Duncan that is wonderfully off the beaten path. We chose to stay at Oceanfront Suites at Cowichan Bay because it was really the only hotel in town. And with a couple of children, the suite with a kitchenette was helpful as it’s just too expensive to eat out all the time. The kids also enjoyed the pool, even though the change area does need an upgrade.

Perhaps the best part was the view from the restaurant. We had a great breakfast there and it was quiet and everyone was friendly. You will see in the pictures that there’s this large painting that stands out for several reasons. The woman in the picture seems to be in partial undress, her shoes seem unfit for sailing and she seems to be using some kind of super powers to remove the covering on the boat. I’m not sure how they’ll going to sail it as the boat is unhitched and not near enough to the water. (Waiting for the tide seems like a bad idea too.) There’s got to be a story about this painting.

All the staff I dealt with were great. When we did have noisy neighbours, they did work to help so that I didn’t have to pound on strangers’ doors. When I mentioned the problem at check out they were fast to offer a discount off the one night that had the problem.

From an overheard conversation, it sounds like this hotel has been here a long time and they are gradually upgrading the rooms and facilities. Definitely worth the stay and if you don’t mind a bit of extra driving, you see a better rate per night and more square footage than if you’re in the city.
